(Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and The Bookish!)
I am *tentatively* back!
It felt so strange not posting regularly for the past two weeks, but with working all of the time and seeing my friends who have just returned from uni for the summer, it was right for me to take a step back. I was really excited about this week's Top Ten Tuesday, though, so it's managed to drag me back in!
I am an avid user of Goodreads. I post on there all the time (so much so that I'm in the Top 100 reviewers for the UK!) and I love reading conflicting reviews for books: there are so many that get five star reviews and one star reviews to a near equal ratio, and it always fascinates me to see what people think at each end of the spectrum.
These books are ones that I have absolutely loved (meaning I rated them either 4 or 5 stars), but have a less than 100 reviews on Goodreads, organised by amount of reviews.
10) 'How Many Letters Are In Goodbye?' by Yvonne Cassidy - 99 reviews
This only just made it into the top ten! I'm so glad that one extra person didn't review it, because I love getting an opportunity to gush about this book - with a disabled lesbian Irish main character running away from home to New York, it couldn't be a much more diverse novel, and it really hit me in the feels.
9) 'The Innocent's Story' by Nicky Singer - 86 reviews
I read 'The Innocent's Story' long before I knew Goodreads existed... Probably back when I was 10 or 11. It severely stuck in my mind, though, and when I found it on Goodreads (after describing the cover and the plot, and asking in a thousand different "Find my book!" groups) I had to give it a retrospective 5 stars. I'm going to purchase this one to re-read it eventually, as I read it out of the library and the copy has been withdrawn.
8) 'Frost' by E. Latimer - 72 reviews
This is going to sound terrible, but I can't really remember much about 'Frost'. I reviewed it but tried to make the review as spoiler free as possible... Reading back over it I have no idea what happened, but apparently I enjoyed it as it received four stars. I'll have to dig out my notes on this one, and then hopefully I'll still want to continue on with the sequel!
7) 'The Choice' by Allison J. Kennedy - 66 reviews
Dealing with the subject of rape, I was very conflicted about 'The Choice'. I liked May's character, but I just wasn't sure about how the issue was tackled: it was dealt with sensitively, but because it happened so early on in the novel it seemed like May's only defining characteristic until later in the book.
6) 'Cruel Summer' by K. R. Conway - 64 reviews
When I requested 'Cruel Summer' on NetGalley, I didn't realise it was part of a series! I read it anyway and adored K. R. Conway's writing style, but I still haven't gotten around to reading the rest of the series... I'm really not sure why.
5) 'Entice' by Erica Crouch - 62 reviews
I enjoyed the entirety of Erica Crouch's Ignite series, but the first novella was my favourite.
4) 'In Place of Never' by Julie Anne Lindsey - 61 reviews
After Mercy's sister dies and her mother commits suicide, her pastor father is extremely overprotective. When the carnival folk suspected of being involved in her sister's death return to town, her father warns them to stay away, but Mercy needs answers.
Dealing with the subject of grief, 'In Place of Never' is an emotional read, but it's beautifully realistic.
3) 'Come Sit By Me' by Thomas Hoobler - 56 reviews
I know I said that 'Entice' was my favourite book in the Ignite series, and it is - it received 5 stars, compared to the 4 stars I gave to 'Incite'. However, it also has a whopping 8 reviews more, which meant it had to come lower down in this list!
1) 'Teeth' by Chele Cooke - 46 reviews
Hopefully you'll check out some of these books and put your own reviews up on Goodreads - they're all worth reading!
Thanks for being patient with me while I took my time away, and hopefully I'll see you next week.

A student shoots up the school in an apparently unprovoked attack. When the new kid comes to the school, he wants to solve the mystery.
2) 'Incite' by Erica Crouch - 54 reviews
1) 'Teeth' by Chele Cooke - 46 reviews
I contacted Chele when I spotted on Goodreads that she needed reviewers for 'Teeth'. It was the first times I stepped out of my comfort zone and bravely emailed someone I didn't know, and when Chele replied and sent me an e-copy of the book I was over the moon. I ended up loving it and gave it 5 stars - it might feature vampires, but they're a much bloodier and scarier vampire than those that I was previously acquainted with!

I read How Many Letters Are In Goodbye, this year, and sadly, it wasn't my cup of tea. But I'm glad you liked it! I'll have to check out the rest of the books that made your list! :)
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten Tuesday!
It took me a while to get into it, but once I did I was head over heels! But then I am a sucker for epistolary novels...
DeleteOh wow, under 100! Some of these seem quite interesting, will check them out :)
ReplyDeleteI'd say they were definitely worth your time!
