I haven't actually read that many books that have maps in - one of the perils of only just starting to explore the fantasy genre! It took me a very long time looking through all of my books to find five, but I do like the maps that I've found.
5) 'Hollow Earth' by John and Carole Barrowman
The 'Hollow Earth' map is a little bit plain, but I adored the close up illustration of the abbey, pictured below.
4) 'A Game of Thrones' by George RR Martin
If you watch the Game of Thrones TV series, you'll be pretty well acquainted with the map of Westeros, but I still enjoy looking at the simplistic, less 3-D, version in the novel.
My favourite section is definitely The Land Beyond The Wall.
3) The Warrior Cats series maps
Taking it back to when I was younger, the Warrior Cats series always had the most well-designed maps. Different maps are featured in the later series, but the original map always has been and always will be my favourite. I particularly love the Riverclan Camp, down in the bottom left corner.
2) 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' by Sarah J Maas
It feels like I keep choosing 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' for everything recently, because it was part of my Top Ten Tuesday yesterday. But this map is utterly gorgeous, so I had no choice but to include it.
1) 'The Winner's Curse' by Marie Rutkoski
Sadly I've had to pick a photo off of Google to show my favourite bookish map of all time - that from 'The Winner's Curse' by Marie Rutkoski. I own the novel on my Kindle, so I've only seen the map in small, disjointed images before, but it looks so beautiful as a full image. I love the creatures around the outside displaying Bite and Sting cards, and I love the Kestrel sat on the compass - the main character's namesake. It's just so well thought out and beautiful, even if the best details aren't really focused on the map itself.
