TOP TEN TUESDAY: Ten songs I wish were books

(Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and The Bookish!)

I feel as though this week's topic is the most "me" topic that Top Ten Tuesday has ever covered. In case you haven't noticed, I write concert reviews and have a feature called New Music Monday: music is my thing, yo!
So, combining music with books? THIS IS THE DREAM. Here are ten songs that I really wish were books (including a couple I've tried to write myself...)

10) 'Misery Business' by Paramore

Come on, we all love a bitchy high school drama, but I've never read one that has utterly blown me away - 'Misery Business' being adapted into a book could definitely solve that problem.

9) 'Children of the Night' by The Blackout

Are the 'Children of the Night' vampires? Most probably. But it would be great to read a horror story that invented a new class of terrifying monsters. 

8) 'Holy' by PVRIS

I had 'Holy' by PVRIS in mind when I was reading 'In Place of Never' by Julie Anne Lindsey earlier this month. The main character's father is religious but he's extremely hypocritical, judging the people around him almost instantaneously: it's something that I haven't seen tackled regularly but it's very eye-opening and thought-provoking.

7) 'There's No Such Thing As Accidental Infidelity' by You Me At Six (ft. Aled Phillips)

I wrote a coursework piece for my A Level English based upon this song, and I still think there's a lot of potential to turn it into a story. Instead of focusing on the cheater and the guilt that they feel, it focuses on the feeling of betrayal that comes from being cheated on: it's something that doesn't get talked about enough.

6) 'Remembering Sunday' by All Time Low (ft. Juliet Simms)

'Remembering Sunday' is one of, if not the, most emotional All Time Low songs they've ever written. It tells a story by itself, of a break-up and the fall out from the girl leaving him, but I want to know more about their relationship. He was going to propose, so it must have been serious, but with the girl saying "I'm not coming back, I've done something so terrible" - there's so much potential for a story here!

5) 'The Best Is Yet To Come' by Kids In Glass Houses

I've read a few New Adult books that have focused on the bad boy turning good for a girl, but I can't think of a single one that works the other way around: with the bad girl turning good for a boy. Pleading "lay down slowly, don't you fool me, 'cause I don't wanna be alone tonight" shows a vulnerability that it's hard to find in most male characters, so this could be a brilliant springboard.

4) 'Ghost' by Halsey

I was considering picking 'Drive', but I've heard a lot of people say that it's basically the plot of 'The Raven Boys' by Maggie Stiefvater so it feels as though that one has already been written. I like ghost stories, but I also like romance - there's probably a market out there for YA with a ghost as the love interest. 

3) 'Makedamnsure' by Taking Back Sunday

"I'm gonna make damn sure, that you can't ever leave, no you won't ever get too far from me" being menacingly whispered by a stalker protagonist following his latest victim down the street. Tell me that's not creepy as heck. Tell me that wouldn't be brilliant to read.

2) 'She Took Him To The Lake' by Mallory Knox

I decided to use 'She Took Him To The Lake' as my NaNoWriMo inspiration back in 2014. It's an epic song - over seven minutes long! - so there's certainly a lot to work with, but it does tell a brilliant story in itself. 

1) 'A Fever You Can't Sweat Out' by Panic! at the Disco

Wait, this isn't a song?! No. It's not. 'A Fever You Can't Sweat Out' is a wonderful album, and I genuinely believe that it's a concept album - the themes than run throughout, the ongoing story that weaves between the songs. I've actually been writing a story based off of Fever... for about seven years now - it's one of those projects that I've always wanted to finish, because it has a lot of potential. Hopefully by announcing it to the world, I'll feel more inclined to carry on.
