TOP FIVE WEDNESDAY: Top five favourite things about blogging

(Top Five Wednesday was created by GingerReadsLainey. Find out more at the Goodreads group!)

I've been blogging for just over a year now, and there are definitely some things I love about it!

5) Challenging myself
In my first six months blogging, I only got 1,000 pageviews. I was pretty disheartened - I was reviewing a lot of books, and sending reviews out to bands that I saw live, but I didn't really have anything to show for it. I was dedicating all of my time to this site, but there was no return - I was very close to quitting.
Then all of a sudden, because I persevered and challenged myself to write bigger and better reviews - that was when things started to happen! The last eight months have been a huge rollercoaster, all because I persuaded myself to keep going - something that wouldn't have happened without blogging.

4) Interacting with authors and bands
Because I run a mixed blog of book and concert reviews, I have to include some of my music blogging in this Top Five Wednesday!
I always tweeted out to authors and bands before blogging, but I've had some really lovely comments from people since I've been sending them reviews instead. My favourite moments are torn between A.G. Howard and me tweeting for a few days following my review of 'Splintered' - her writing is amazing and I thought she'd be much too busy to talk to fans! - or being approached by Elasea at a concert to thank me for the review I'd written about them the previous month. Being acknowledged online is awesome, being acknowledged in person means so, so much.

3) Participating in blog tours
I've met so many lovely authors through the blog tour work I've been doing - mainly with Patchwork Press and Booktrope - and it's been so much fun to try books I might not normally have picked up. It also tests me to work to a deadline, because sometimes I am a terrible procrastinator, so this gets me working faster and harder than normal.

2) Writing regularly
I've always loved writing. I won NaNoWriMo last year with nearly a week to spare, which has never happened before - I'd like to thank the blog for getting me write faster and more regularly, so it didn't take much to get me off of my ass and into writing mode!

1) Making friends
The comments and tweets I get from you guys means the world to me! I know I don't get as many comments as some of the bigger bloggers, but that just means that they matter so much more to me - they aren't frequent, but I remember them. I've been getting more comments since starting Top Ten Tuesday and Top Five Wednesday, so I could also say that this is about being part of a community - I finally feel like I've found somewhere to belong, which is awesome!

I hope you enjoyed my Top Five Wednesday. If you blog, why do you do it? If not, why not? Comments down below!
