TOP TEN TUESDAY: Ten 2015 releases I should have read by now

(Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and The Bookish!)

2015 was a fabulous year for book releases. There were series enders, series openers, debuts and diverse books galore! Far too many to be able to read them all. So here are ten books that I really intending on reading in 2015 (like, I seriously planned to. I'm really disappointed in myself)... But that I might end up reading in 2016.

10) 'An Ember In The Ashes' by Sabaa Tahir
I'm terrified of high fantasy. It gives me heart palpitations. So while I really want to read Sabaa Tahir's novel to see what all of the fuss is about, I know that it's going to be very, very difficult for me to do so.

9) 'The Accident Season' by Moira Fowley-Doyle
In probably the biggest installment of 'Alyce is an idiot' that the world has ever seen, I didn't get around to reading 'The Accident Season'. Why does that make me such an idiot? Because I requested the title on NetGalley and was accepted, and then I purchased an ARC of the book on one of my legendary trips to London. I'm a fool.

8) 'The Lost and the Found' by Cat Clarke
The concept behind Cat Clarke's newest YA release is spine-tingling and attention-grabbing: a young girl gets abducted, then is returned to the family home thirteen years later. It's such a unique idea, and one that I definitely haven't read before, so I was very excited to pick this one up. However, I did catch up on some of Cat Clarke's older releases, so I feel like I can get to this one fairly soon.

7) 'A Darker Shade of Magic' by Victoria Schwab
Can I even call myself a reader?! Everyone who's anyone read 'A Darker Shade of Magic' last year, but because of my fear of high fantasy and aversion to popular titles, I purchased it on my Kindle and then pushed it to the back of my mind. With the second book releasing fairly soon, I think I'm going to attempt to run and catch up with the crowd.

6) 'Mosquitoland' by David Arnold
This is even worse, because I actually received 'Mosquitoland' free via bookbridgr, and I still didn't get around to reading it. One of my New Year's resolutions is to catch up on all of my review copies, so I'll be picking this one up soon.

5) 'Red Queen' by Victoria Aveyard
I only got excited about 'Red Queen' because everyone else was excited. I know that sounds really stupid, but everyone was blowing up with anticipation for this book, and it rubbed off on me. Then I heard a lot of bad reviews, and a lot of meh reviews, from bloggers and Booktubers whose opinions I really respected, so I shoved this one to the bottom of the TBR pile.

4) 'My Heart and Other Black Holes' by Jasmine Warga
I was so excited about Jasmine Warga's debut novel for so long before it published, I completely panicked when it was released. I had my hopes up way too high and I knew there was no way it could live up to my expectations.
Well, I'm probably wrong about that. When I do eventually read it (oh, and I will) I've got a feeling it's going to be absolutely amazing and I'm going to regret dawdling, but the fear is still too palpable.

3) 'The Sin Eater's Daughter' by Melinda Salisbury
I pre-ordered 'The Sin Eater's Daughter' without knowing much about it, because the brand new paperback was only just over £3. I heard so much about it after it published, and I've heard a lot of excitement recently regarding the impending release of the sequel, but I still haven't had a chance to read it for myself.

2) 'All The Bright Places' by Jennifer Niven
It makes it so much worse when I admit that I actually bought this book the week it came out. That means it's been waiting on my shelf for an entire year, and I still haven't had the inclination to pick it up and read it. What the heck is wrong with me?!

1) 'Carry On' by Rainbow Rowell
IN MY DEFENSE I only got 'Carry On' for Christmas. However, it's now three weeks after Christmas and I don't think I'm going to be able to have time to get around to this one for at least another month, which is majorly bad of me.

I hope you enjoyed this Top Ten Tuesday! Which books did you mean to read in 2015?

  1. It's probably not going to help but ADSOM IS SOOOO GOOOD. You'll not regret reading it!

I still haven't read a single Cat Clarke book although they always sound interesting and right up my alley. Maybe 2016 will finally be the year I read one of her books.

    1. I hope I won't! I absolutely loved The Archived, so I really want to get around to reading more of Victoria's work.

Do it! I highly recommend Entangled - it made me cry for three hours after I finished reading it, so get some tissues at the ready!

    1. See, that makes me even more excited about it! I've heard a lot of people saying that they're quite similar, but I don't think that can be a bad thing.

  5. We have a few of the same books on our lists. I have All the Bright Places, An Ember in the Ashes, and Mosquitoland on mine. My Heart and Other Black Holes is one of the books I've read and I really enjoyed it.
