I don't read a lot of SFF, but that's something I've been trying to change. I knew exactly which books I was going to talk about when I saw this topic, and that shows how little I read: normally it takes me hours of thinking to cut down the longlist and choose the five that really impressed me!
5) 'Snow Like Ashes' by Sara Raasch
I adored the first book in Sara's trilogy, and I've been scared to carry on with the rest of the series in case it starts disappointing me. There aren't many fantasy series that consistently impress me, so I've accepted the fact that I'm going to hate the next book - I just hope I'm proved wrong!
4) 'The Restaurant at the End of the Universe' by Douglas Adams
I keep talking about 'The Restaurant at the End of the Universe' because I can't get over how perfect it was... And how it made the rest of the trilogy of five look so terrible in comparison.
3) 'The Invasion of the Tearling' by Erika Johansen
I hated the first book, I hated the third book, but this second installment was utter perfection. I'm glad I persevered with this trilogy despite thinking 'The Queen of the Tearling' was glorified trash, because it meant I got to experience this masterpiece (even if all the hard work was destroyed in 'The Fate of the Tearling').
2) 'Red Rising' by Pierce Brown
Groan at me all you want, but as soon as we're talking about sci-fi I have to express my love for Pierce Brown. I talk about this book more than any other because I am ADDICTED. I've reread it twice already and I can't wait to dive back in again, because every single time I pick it up I get more out of it.
1) 'War of the Worlds' by H.G. Wells
Notice how I didn't put 'Red Rising' top? That's because even though it's my favourite book OF ALL TIME, I wouldn't have bothered picking it up if I hadn't already given 'War of the Worlds' a chance. If you've never been a fan of sci-fi, try giving this one a read: you won't regret it, because it's the most flawless book that's ever been written.
I hope you enjoyed this Top Ten Tuesday! Do you have any sci-fi or fantasy recommendations for me? Let me know down below, because I really want to read more of these genres!
War of the worlds still freaks me out.
ReplyDeleteI want to reread it, but I also don't - it scared the bejesus out of me first time around, even though I did love it!
DeleteI must read war of the worlds and red rising soon. They look so sad on my bookshelf. ;-;
